Migration: African perspectives

16:30 - 18:00 | FEPS, Rue Montoyer 40, Brussel

Why do migrants make the difficult decision to leave their countries, homes and families to come and work in Europe? What pushes them? What motives are so compelling to be stronger than the dangers and risks they often meet during their journey? And what measures can be taken to address in an effective and humane way the so-called root causes?

The study that will be presented today – promoted by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies and the Foundation Max van der Stoel – aims to search answers to the above-mentioned questions by means of a research on the field conducted in Ghana and Tunisia, as well as with interviews and workshops, and with the invaluable support and insight of African diasporas in the Netherlands.

The study will also be presented at the Afrikadag on 4 April 2020 in the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.
